The Group Savings Organization Expands Board of Advisors with Three Nationally Renowned Healthcare Business Leaders

New members Vance B. Moore, Ann Pumpian and Robert J. Maloney, Jr. bring significant healthcare expertise to help drive new offerings and innovation

PINECREST, FL, SEPTEMBER 28, 2022 – The Group Savings Organization (The GSO) announced today that it has appointed three new members to its board of advisors. With decades of experience in healthcare and hospital leadership, the new advisory members will help support the organization’s growth and ongoing innovation of services and technology designed to improve the bottom line for healthcare organizations.

The new board members include:

  • Vance B. Moore – Director of Omnicell, a company transforming the pharmacy care delivery industry. Moore has held leadership positions for some of the nation’s most respected healthcare organizations, including Mercy Healthcare, Baxter International, Cardinal Health, and the healthcare division of the UPS Logistics Group.
  • Ann Pumpian – Former Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Sharp HealthCare in San Diego. Pumpian also serves on the Sharp Health Plan Board and the State of California’s Department of Managed Health Care Financial Solvency Standards Board.
  • Robert J. Maloney, Jr. – Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Erlanger Health Systems. Maloney has held several key leadership positions at numerous health systems, including Chief Operating Officer at Mercy Health Anderson and Chief Operating Officer at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

“Vance, Ann and Robert are powerhouses in the hospital industry and bring incredible experience as we build out our unmatched cost savings and revenue generating services and technology,” said Scott Robins, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of The GSO. “Not only are they highly experienced, but they all share our passion for eradicating the wasteful and unnecessary spending in health systems so that costs go down, revenue increases and leadership can focus on better patient care.”

The current model of Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs) simply achieves savings through bulk purchasing in a one-size-fits-all approach. The GSO has reimagined hospital purchasing and is already creating unprecedented savings and revenue. Using its proprietary technology platform, The GSOhub, as a foundation, the company connects hospitals to GSO-Affiliates that have specialized capabilities in more than 100+ categories of medical and non-medical spend for better contracting, asset management, and employee-led cost savings initiatives. For a mid-sized health system, The GSO model will save on average nearly $6 million and generate $300,000 in new revenue annually.

“What’s compelling about The GSO model is that it applies the specialist model we use in clinical care to hospital purchasing, bringing more focus, expertise and rigor towards harvesting savings,” said Vance B. Moore, Director of Omnicell. “Healthcare has a perpetual chronic condition when it comes to spending, and it requires a specialist model for better outcomes. I’m excited to work with The GSO to help organizations regain control of that spend in ethical ways with sustainable results.”

Hospital purchasing through GPO models has not changed in more than 100 years. Today many hospitals face unprecedented increases in costs across all purchasing categories, requiring new and innovative approaches to how they spend against medical and non-medical services and goods. With the help of its new advisors, The GSO plans to build on its innovative model and The GSOhub’s technology to drive an even larger impact within the industry.

“I’m looking forward to advising The GSO at a time when health care executives continue to be faced with increased costs and reductions in reimbursement,” said Ann Pumpian, Former Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Sharp HealthCare. “Reducing and controlling costs of operations today is paramount and The GSO model reimagines how that’s done not only proving to achieve savings and generate revenue but also expanding the knowledge base for hospitals to achieve long-term results against their spending.”

“Working with The GSO, I saw the positive impact first hand and believe its value proposition will ultimately benefit many organizations as the entire industry continues to face an unprecedented need to prioritize cost savings,” said Robert J. Maloney, Jr., Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Erlanger Health Systems. “I look forward to working with The GSO as it manages to navigate the internal challenges of hospital sourcing groups and individuals whom historically have not embraced change. Hospitals cannot afford to miss an opportunity to implement something so successful and that comes with no risk.”
